Brief statement on why you’re excited to speak at this conference and/or how you feel you can inspire people to innovate their profession with technology.

I'm looking forward to sharing my story with people looking to make a difference and try something new.

What interests you, or fascinates you about technology?

Technology connects us to each other and makes information available at our fingertips.

What interests you, or fascinates you about entrepreneurship?

Entrepreneurship is a 24/7 logic puzzle. If you like to think and problem-solve, it's a fun ride.

What are you most known for? We want to make sure novel attendees have as much time to prepare as possible to maximize their learning with you.

Title of Talk: ABA & Entrepreneurship for Pirates: AAARGH!

Description: What do THINX Underwear, Yelp, Snapchat, and Accreditation have in common? A lot! This presentation will demonstrate that behavior analysts possess a unique skill set that enhances our ability to be successful entrepreneurs in any industry. Through personal stories and case studies, we will detail how the science of behavior, and saying “AAARGH!,” can be used to start a new business and offer an innovative product or service. Summary of purpose, content and expected outcomes of participants: As behavior analysts, we already have the tools needed to produce meaningful behavior change. The same techniques can be applied outside the field of developmental disabilities. The purpose of this presentation is to provide attendees with an understanding of how the science of behavior can help bring their innovative idea to life. We will share inspirational stories and strategies of three women who have used their training in behavior analysis to start businesses that offer a variety of products and services to new markets. You will walk away feeling empowered and ready to tackle the day-to-day challenges the way only a behavioral analyst can!


  1. Recognize the need for more businesses that are based on the

    principles of behavior analysis (outside of the field of autism).

  2. Learn how to apply behavior analytic strategies to launch a new

    business, product or service.

  3. Compare business practices to behavior analytic principles.

Bio: Sara Gershfeld Litvak is an entrepreneur and behavioral scientist who currently serves as an Adjunct Professor for the Applied Behavior Analysis program at Pepperdine University. She has served as a systems consultant for numerous funders designing Quality Assurance processes to ensure that ABA service providers provide clinically sound services. Currently, Sara is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of BHCOE Accreditation, the only ABA-specific accrediting body. She is an education blogger for the Huffington Post, has served as past Co-Chair of the Autism Special Interest Group at ABAI, on the Board of Directors for the Association for Science in Autism Treatment, and as a Subject Matter Expert for the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB). In her free time Sara enjoys anything tech, traveling, baking, yoga and spending time outdoors.
